Hinoki part 2

Writer's picture: Ted BentleyTed Bentley

First week of June was my second time back at Eisei-en. This time I will be handing for over cold hard cash for The Hinoki. It's mine! The goal is to leave it there during my time in intensive class. Learn every freaking thing I can. See I want to be a grower for JM and JBP. The Hinoki is for my garden, a center piece. The all mighty!

The first morning I get there. I start taking pictures of all the trees. I slowly get the way down to where my tree is stored. It filled out beautifully! The plan would be a first season pruning. Building the apex. Could say this is the first styling.

Next pic is after the top was cut off and Jin was made.

Some light clean up, remove any browning foliage.

Adding some wire to the top for the apex.

I had to have a picture with Bjorn!

So this class I trimmed a little. Cleaned under the pads. Wired just a little for the apex to be built. A few more guide lines. The lowest right branch I left alone. It has the fewest growth. Threw on some fresh organic fertilizer pads.

Bjorn built and set the apex. The Jin on top I am not a huge fan of, but it can always be hidden by growth.

I love this tree. Just looks more rad every time I get to see it in person.

I'll show you a few of the other trees I worked on.

This juniper is Bjorn's fathers, I just cleaned up from the spring new growth. Reworked the Shari. I have little experience with junipers.

I purchased this Japanese flowering quince Boke.

Also another awesome tree I worked on, a Japanese Black Pine.

Another fun and big tree.

It was a great second class. Worked on some outstanding material and gave me some awesome experience!

Thanks

Ted
